Solution

The correct option is B Both the statements I and II are correct
ELISA (Enzyme Linked Immuno-sorbent Assay) is used to detect and quantify substances, such as antibodies, antigens, proteins, glycoproteins, and hormones. The detection of these substances is accomplished by complexing antibodies and antigens to produce a measurable result. Hence, ELISA is based on the principle of antigen-antibody interaction. ELISA can provide a useful measurement of antigen-antibody concentration. It is rapid, quick and requires a blood sample of the patient.

ELISA testing is used to diagnose HIV infection. It helps to examine the presence of antibodies synthesised against HIV in the body.

ELISA test is employed as the first and the most basic test for an individual to detect HIV. If a person tests positive for HIV on the ELISA test, the provider orders the Western blot test to confirm HIV infection.

Hence, both the statements (I and II) are correct.
