Plasmolysis is the loss of water by a cell when it is kept in a hypertonic solution. As a result the cell membrane shrinks away from the cell wall. A hypertonic solution causes movement of water out of the cell i.e exosmosis. So, the correct option is 'Both statements 1 and 2 are incorrect'.
