Sponges reproduce both asexually and sexually. The asexual reproduction is through regeneration, budding and branching, fission & fragmentation and formation of gemmules. In budding, numerous archaeocytes gather near the surface resulting in a small outgrowth on the pinacoderm, and during gemmule formation, archaeocytes laden with glycoprotein or lipoprotein get aggregated into a mass.
