At the time the Industrial Revolution began in England, not much manufacturing happened there and Indian textiles were highly sought after. India had some of the finest silks, calicoes and, cloth work. But the British were not too happy about it. They did not want the spotlight to reduce from the inventions like the flying shuttle by John Kay, the inventions of Hargreaves, Arkwright, and Crompton. That is why they passed a law prohibiting the use and selling of Indian calicoes and silks which was a major blow to our weavers.
