Question

Short /Long answer type question.
How is the photosynthetic efficiency higher in CAM plants?

Open in App
Solution

The photosynthetic efficiency is the fraction of light energy converted into chemical energy during photosynthesis in plants and algae.
Some plants that are adapted to dry environments, such as cacti and pineapples, use crassulacean acid metabolism (CAM) pathway to minimize photorespiration. When photorespiration is reduced then the photosynthesis is increased. This is the reason that the CAM plants have higher photosynthetic efficiency.
