Structures present outside the cell wall of bacteria are:
  1. The capsule which protects the cell against antibiotics, viral attacks, etc.
  2. Slime layer which protects the cell from loss of water and nutrients. Both are made up of glycocalyx.
  3. Pili can also be there which are the tubular structure and help in conjugation. Fimbriae and flagella can also be present.
