The three important functions of ATP in muscle contraction are:
1. It gets hydrolysed by ATPase that activates the myosin head so that it can bind to actin and rotate.
2. It's binding to myosin causes its detachment from actin after the power stroke.
3. It provides energy in transporting the calcium ions from cytosol back into the sarcoplasmic reticulum.
