Question

Sir, I am not able to understand difference between word problems of quadratic equation and linear equation with two varuables. Please let me understand this.

Solution

if the problem states that the rate of change of the variable in consideration is a constant then the resulting equation will be linear. For example, distance of a car from point A at a given time (t), when it’s moving at a constant speed in one direction.

If, however, the rate of change itself varies at a constant rate to the variable then the resulting expression will be quadratic. Taking the above example, if the car were to be accelerating at a constant rate, i.e. if the speed of the car is increasing at a constant rate, the that would result in a quadratic expression for distance in terms of time (t).
