(1) Sound wave has frequency 320 Hz and wavelength 0.25 m. How much distance will it travel in 10 second.

[Ans : 800 m.]

(2) A sound wave having certain frequency travels with a speed of 336 m/s and wavelength 3 cm. calculate the frequency. Will it be audible?

(1) Frequency of sound, ν = 320 Hz

Wavelength, λ = 0.25 m

Speed of sound v =?

We know, v = νλ

v = 320 0.25

v = 80 m/s

Distance travelled by sound wave in 10 s is given by,

⇒ d = vt

d = 8010 = 800 m

(2) Speed of sound wave, v = 336 m/s

Wavelength, λ = 3 cm = 0.03 m

Frequency of sound wave, ν = …..?

We know, v = νλ

336 = 0.03 ν

ν = 11200 Hz

Frequency of sound, 11200 Hz, is in audible range.
