Question

Solve 2x3y=9 , 3x+7y=2 Hence find the value of k, if x=ky+5.

Open in App
Solution

Given equations are,
2x3y=9 ...(i)
3x+7y=2 ...(ii)

Multiplying eq.(i) by 3 and eq.(ii) by 2, we get
6x9y=27 ...(iii)
6x+14y=4 ...(iv)

Subtracting eq (iv) from eq (iii), we get
23y=23
y=2323
y=1

Substituting the value of y in eq(i), we get
2x31=9
2x+3=9
2x=93
2x=6
x=3

Hence x=3 and y=1

Given x=ky+5
Substituting x and y in above eq.,
3=k×1+5
3=k+5
k=53
k=2

Hence the value of k is 2.
