Question

Solve for x and y:

23x29y=98,29x23y=110.

Open in App
Solution

23x − 29y = 98 ....(1)

29x − 23y = 110 ...(2)

Adding (1) and (2), we get

52x − 52y = 208

52 (x-y) =208

⇒x − y = 4 .....(3)

Subtracting (2) from (1), we get

−6x − 6y = −12
⇒x + y = 2 ....(4)
adding (3) and (4), we get
2x = 6
⇒x = 3
Now, from (4), we get
y = −1

Hence, x=3 and y= -1..
