$3 (y + 8) = 10 (y - 4) + 8$
$\Rightarrow 3 y + 24 = 10 y - 40 + 8$
$\Rightarrow 7 y - 32 - 24 = 0$
$\Rightarrow 7 y = 56$
$\Rightarrow y = 8$
