Question

State Newton's second law of motion.

Open in App
Solution

Newton's second law of motion states that the net force acting on the object is equal to the rate of change of linear momentum and this change in momentum takes place in the direction of the force applied.

Mathematically, F=dPdt

As we know, P=mv

F=mdvdt+vdmdt

F=ma+0(ifmassisconstant)

F=ma(1)

and

F=m(0)+vdmdt(ifmassisvariableandvelocityisconstant)

F=v(dmdt)(variablemassconcept,forinstancefuelejectionfromrocket)
