Question

State the co-ordinates of the following points under reflection in the line x = 0 :

(i) (-6, 4) (ii) (0, 5) (iii) (3, -4)

Solution

Reflection in the line x=0 implies the reflection in the yaxis, and we know when a point is reflected in the yaxis, the value of the ordinate remains the same, while the sign of the abscissa changes.

Symbolically, it is represented as,
My(x,y)=(x,y)

Therefore,

(i) reflection of (-6, 4) under reflection in the line x = 0 is (6, 4).

(ii) reflection of (0, 5) under reflection in the line x = 0 is (0, 5)

(iii) reflection of (3, -4) under reflection in the line x = 0 is (-3, -4)
