Chordae tendineae:

The tricuspid valve and bicuspid valve (mitral valve) are attached to the right and left ventricle respectably by strong, elastic threads known as chordae tendineae.

The functions of the chordae tendineae:

  1. Chordae tendineae maintain the position and tension of the atrioventricular valves (tricuspid and bicuspid valves).
  2. They maintain the one-way blood flow from the auricle to the ventricles.
