Question

State whether weight is a scalar or vector quantity?

Open in App
Solution

The weight of a body is defined as the force by which the body is attracted by the planet (say earth) towards its center.
Weight can thus be considered the same as the Gravitational force (vector) exerted by the earth on that body. Hence, weight is a vector quantity and has both direction and magnitude.
