Solution

The correct option is A Statement 1 is true and statement 2 is false.
Tin is less reactive than iron and it prevents food from being spoiled. So the cans are made by electroplating tin on iron to preserve food items.
Metals like iron get easily corroded by atmospheric air, moisture and carbon dioxide. On the other hand, metals like nickel and chromium are less reactive metals as compared to iron. So, iron is coated with deposits of nickel or chromium to prevent corrosion by the process of electroplating.

Copper plating is not preferred for machinary parts because corrosion of copper occurs when it is exposed to moisture and elevated temperatures. Machinery parts are infact chromium plated to protect them from corrosion and at the same time to give them a good polish.

Therefore, statement 1 is true and statement 2 is false.
