Solution

The correct option is C Both statements 1 and 2 are true and 2 is the correct explanation for 1.
The Zhou dynasty began its decline by the 8th century BCE. Several feudal lords broke away from the central rule to declare themselves independent. This turned the Zhou state into a loose association of warring states. The situation worsened so much that we have a period in Chinese history called the Warring States Period, lasting from 476 BCE to 222 BCE. Seven states namely, Chu, Han, Qi, Quin, Wei, Yan and Zhou were fighting with each other. The Qin dynasty emerged victorious and gained supremacy by defeating the Zhou dynasty. With this began the Imperial Era in China.
