What do we know about nucleophiles?

1. Substrate Reagent Product Reagents are of two types: the one which attacks the possitive site in the molecule is called the nuclephile or nucleophilic reagent and the one which attacks the negative site in the molecule is called the electrophile or electrophilic reagent.

2.Nucleophilic reagent or nucleophile: Anegatively charged specis or neutral molecule with lone pair of electrons, i.e., with electron_rich centre. They act as Lewis base, e.g.,

OH,OR,CN.NH2,H (hydride ion), HSO3,COO,

RCC,CH(COOEt)2,CH3,COCH2, H2..O:, ..ROH..

R..O.. R,R..S..H,R...NH2, ..NH3,

R MgX, RLi, LIAH4

(Star indicates the atom that donates electron to the substrate.)

Now, Here

CH3O is the strongest nucleophile which is capable of acting as donar of electon pair.
