Then, the other number is $(38-x)$

The difference of the numbers is 16

$\Rightarrow (38-x)-x=16$

$\Rightarrow 38-2x=16$

$\Rightarrow 2x=22$

$\Rightarrow x=11$

Other number $=38-x=38-11=27$
