Solution

The correct option is D

selectively permeable

The cell membrane is a thin flexible layer around the cells of all living things. It is sometimes called the plasma membrane or cytoplasmic membrane. At any given time, there are substances waiting outside of the cells to get inside. If everything were free to pass, cells would get over-filled and burst! So, the cell membrane only allows what needs to come inside. Also, it lets out things that are no longer required, like waste products. Hence, the cell membrane is selectively permeable.
