Question

The conductivity of $$0.20\ M$$ solution of $$KCl$$ at $$298\ K$$ is $$0.0248\ S\ cm^{-1}$$. Calculate its molar conductivity.


Solution

Molar conductivity $$\displaystyle \Lambda$$ and specific conductivity $$\displaystyle \kappa$$ are related by the expression as follows:

$$\displaystyle \Lambda = \dfrac {1000 \kappa}{C}$$
where $$C$$ is the molar concentration.

$$\displaystyle \Lambda = \dfrac {1000 \times 0.0248}{0.20} = 124.0 \: S\ cm^2 /mol$$
