Solution

Solution:
The Consumer Protection Act was implemented in 1986. It safeguards and encourages consumers to speak against insufficiency and flaws in goods and services. The act covers all goods and services of all public, private, or cooperative sectors.

The Consumer Protection Act, 1986 was replaced with the Consumer Protection Act, 2019. The new act has widened the definition of consumer. It also provides an option for e-filing complaints and penalties for misleading advertisements.

Some of the consumer rights are:
  • Right to safety: The consumer has the right to be protected against the marketing of goods and services that are dangerous to life and property.
  • Right to be informed: It implies the right to be informed about the quality, quantity, potency, purity, standard, and price of goods to protect consumers against unfair trade practices.
  • Right to seek redressal: It provides for consumers to receive a fair settlement of just claims, including compensation for misrepresentation, shoddy goods, or unsatisfactory services.
