Given,

The angle of dip when dip circle is in magnetic meridian is

tanδ=BVBH



When dip is rotated through an angle θ, then horizontal component of the earth's magnetic field becomes

BH=BHcosα

Since, the vertical component does not change, so apparent dip will be,

tanδ=BVBH=BVBHcosα=tanδcosα

Here, δ=45 and α=45

tanδ=tan45cos45=2
