The moment of inertia of timber beam equivalent is given
Ixx=1250×104mm4
Stress at y = 20 mm

σ=1000×103×201250×104

=1.6N/mm2(Compressive)

Stress at lower level of steel,

σs=mσ20=1.6×20=32N/mm2

Stress at lower level of timber at y = 80 mm

σt=1000×103×801250×104=6.4N/mm2

Stress in timber is tensile, So it is positive.
