Solution

The correct option is A 8km/hr
Let the speed of a boat in still water=α km/hr

Given speed of water(stream)=4 km/hr

Speed of boat during downstream=(α+4)km/hr

Speed of boat during upstream=(α4)km/hr

Time to travel 6km during downstream=6α+4hr

Time to travel 6km during upstream=6α4hr

Given 6α+4+6α4=2

3[α+4+α4(α+4)(α4)]=1

6α=α216

α28α+2α16=0

(α8)(α+2)=0

α=82

Speed of a boat in still water=8km/hr

Speed >0.
