Question

The curved surface area of a right circular cylinder of height  $$14$$ cm is 88 $$c{m^2}$$. Find the diameter of the base of the cylinder.


Solution

Given ,  The height of cylinder $$=14 cm$$ 
and , the curved surface area of cylinder $$=88 cm^2$$

we know that , 

the curved surface area of cylinder $$= 2 \pi r h$$

and $$2r=d$$

here , $$r = radius \  of \ cylinder $$ , $$d= diameter \ of \ cylinder$$ and $$h= height \ of \ cylinder$$

so , the curved surface area of cylinder $$=  \pi d h$$ $$=88 cm^2$$

  $$ \pi \times d \times 14=88$$

 $$ \dfrac {22}{7} \times d \times 14 =88$$

$$ d=2 cm$$

 so, the diameter of the cylinder is $$2 cm$$.
