Solution

The correct option is C [Co(NH3)6]3+
a) In [Co(H2O)6]2+, Co is in +2 oxidation state and electronic configuration of Co2+ is t52ge2g. Since it contains unpaired electron it is paramagnetic in nature.
b) In [Ni(H2O)6]2+, Ni is in +2 oxidation state and electronic configuration of Ni2+ is t62ge2g. Since it contains unpaired electrons it is paramagnetic in nature.
c) In [Co(NH3)6]3+, Co is in +3 oxidation state but NH3 is a strong field ligand hence it will form a low spin complex and electronic configuration will be t62ge0g.
There are no unpaired electrons. Hence, it is a diamagnetic species.
d) In [Ni(NH3)6]2+, Ni is in +2 oxidation state and electronic configuration of Ni2+ is t62ge2g. Since it contains unpaired electron, it is paramagnetic in nature.
