The difference of two natural numbers is 72. If we get 4 on dividing the bigger by the smaller number, find the numbers.

Let the bigger natural number be x.
So, the smaller natural number will be x − 72.
Therefore,
x ÷ (x − 72) = 4
xx-72=4
⇒ x = 4 (x −72)
⇒ x = 4x − 288
⇒ 3x = 288
⇒ x = 96
The bigger number = x = 96
The smaller number = x − 72 = 96 − 72= 24
∴ The bigger number is 96 and the smaller number is 24.
