$$\Rightarrow$$  $$D=b^2-4ac$$
$$\Rightarrow$$  $$-a=(1)^2-4(1)(1)$$
$$\Rightarrow$$  $$-a=1-4$$
$$\Rightarrow$$  $$-a=-3$$
$$\therefore$$  $$a=3$$
