Total energy needed to convert one Mg atom into Mg2+ gas ion,
=I.EI+I.EII=22.681 eV=2188.71 kJ mol1.

24 mg of Mg = 1×103 mole.
Total energy = 1×103×2188.7=2.188 kJ
