The first computer introduced in Nepal was IBM 1401.

The first computer brought in Nepal was IBM 1401 which was brought by the government in lease for the population census of 1972 (2028 BS). Later in 1975 (2031 BS)YantrikSarinikaran Kendra (Electronic Data Processing Centre) was established which was later called as National Computer Centre ( NCC ).

The IBM 1403 printer was introduced in October 1959 with the 1401 Data Processing System. The printer was a completely new development. The IBM 1401 is a variable wordlength decimal computer that was announced by IBM on October 5, 1959. The first member of the highly successful IBM 1400 series, it was aimed at replacing unit record equipment for processing data stored on punched cards and at providing peripheral services for larger computers.
