Question

The given graph shows the displacement versus time relation for a disturbance travelling with velocity of 1500 m/s. Calculate the wavelength of the disturbance.

Open in App
Solution

Given -
Velocity (v)=1500 m/s
To find - Wavelength (λ) of the sound wave

Time period (T) of 1 oscillation
=2μs=2×10(6) s
Now, Frequency (ν)=1/Time period(T)
=1/(2×10(6) s)

ν=5×105 Hz
Speed of sound wave (C) is given by,
c=ν×λ
1500=5×105×λ
or λ=3×10(3) m
Hence wavelength of the disturbance is
3×10(3) m.
