Question

The height of a triangle is 3 m more than its base. If the area of the triangle is 35 sq.m. , then find its height.

Correct Answer
A
10 m
Your Answer
B
7 m
Your Answer
C
14 m
Your Answer
D
5 m

Solution

The correct option is A 10 m
Let x be the height of the triangle, then (x3) will be the base.

Area of a triangle =12×base×height

12×(x3)×x=35
(x3)×x=35×2
x23x=70
x23x70=0
(x10)(x+7)=0
x=10 or (7)

x cannot be a negative value. So x=10.

The height of the triangle is 10 m.
