The image given above is the representation of cyclic photophosphorylation that occurs in the membrane of stromal lamellae of chloroplast. During cyclic photophosphorylation, only PS-I is involved but not PS-II. The reaction centre of PS-I absorbs light of wavelength 700 nm and releases electrons which pass through the electron transport system and are cycled back to the reaction centre of PS-I. During cyclic photophosphorylation, there is only synthesis of ATP but not NADPH unlike non-cyclic photophosphorylation where both ATP and NADPH are synthesised. This process usually occurs when light of wavelength beyond 680 nm is available.
