The ionisation energy and electron affinity of an element are $13 e V$ and $3.8 e V$ respectively. Find the electronegativity of this element on Pauling's scale.

On Mulliken scale, $E . N . = \frac{I . E + E . A}{2} = \frac{13 + 3.8}{2} = 8.4$
Mulliken values are nearly 2.8 time larger than Pauling value
So, on Pauling scale $= \frac{8.4}{2.8} = 3$
