Question

The length of a rectangle is twice of its breadth. If its perimeter is $$48\ cm$$, find the dimensions of the rectangle?


Solution

Let, the dimensions of the rectangle be $$x \ cm, y \ cm$$ respectively

Given that, $$x = 2y$$

and Perimeter $$ = 48 \ cm$$

i.e., $$2(x + y) = 48$$

$$\implies 2(2y + y) = 48$$

$$\implies 6y = 48$$

$$\implies y = \dfrac{48}{6} = 8$$

and $$x = 2y = 2\times 8 = 16$$

$$\therefore$$ the dimensions of the rectangle are $$16 \ cm, 8 \ cm$$ respectively
