Glycolysis the common pathway of respiration. Pyruvate produced by glycolysis either enters aerobic respiration or anaerobic respiration. Lactic acid or ehtanol is produced at the end of anaerobic respiration. When pyruvic acid is subjected to anaerobic respiration, net 2 ATP molecules of ATP are produced. In this, 2 molecules of ATP are used during glycolysis and 4 molecules are synthesized. Fermentation process does not yield any ATP.
