Question

The object travels 16m in 4s and then another 16m in 2s. What is the average speed of the object?

Open in App
Solution

Step 1: Given data

Distance traveled(d1) = 16 m, Time taken(t1) = 4 sec

Distance traveled(d2) = 16 m, Time taken(t2) = 2 sec

Let vavg be average speed.

Step 2: Formula used

vavg=TotalDistanceTotaltime

Step 3: Finding average speed

Total distance(D),(d1+d2)=16m+16m=32m

Total time(T)= (t1+t2)=4s+2s=6s

vavg=TotalDistanceTotaltime=32m6s=5.33ms .

Hence, the average speed of the object is 5.33m/s.
