The diode will be in forward biasing for the first half cycle and in reverse biasing for the next half-cycle. During the positive cycle, let's say, the diode is forward biased and thus it will offer no resistance. So the potential across the diode will be zero

Similarly, during the negative cycle, the diode is reverse biased and thus the resistance will be maximum. So the potential difference across the diode is Vmsinwt.

So we get output only during one half-cycle and thus the diode behaves like a half-wave rectifier with a negative cycle in output.

So, the correct answer is option (C).
