Question

The perimeter of an isosceles triangle is $$32\ cm$$ while its equal sides together measure $$18\ cm$$. Find the third side and each of the equal sides.

Solution

Let the third side be $$x$$.

According to the question,
$$Perimeter=Sum\ of\ all\ three\ sides=x+2a$$

Therefore,
$$x+2a=32$$
$$x+18=32$$
$$x=14\ cm$$

So,
The third side $$=14\ cm$$

And each equal side $$=\dfrac{18}{2}=9\ cm$$

Hence, this is the answer.
