Question

The perimeter of an isosceles triangle is $$50\ cm$$. If one of the two equal sides is $$18\ cm$$, find the third side.

Solution

Let, the triangle be $$\triangle ABC$$
Given, $$AB = CA = 18\ cm$$
Perimeter of the $$\triangle ABC = 50\ cm$$
$$\Rightarrow AB + BC + CA = 50\ cm$$
$$\Rightarrow 18\ cm + BC + 18\ cm = 50\ cm$$
$$\Rightarrow BC = 50\ cm - 36\ cm = 14\ cm$$

Hence, Third side $$BC = 14\ cm$$.
