Question

The potential difference across the terminals of a storage battery is 10V in a closed circuit. If the external resistance is increased by 1Ω, the potential difference increases by 1V. A further increase in the external resistence of 3Ω produces a further increase of 2V in the potential difference. What is the emf E and internal resistance r of the battery?

Solution

Dear Student,

let E be the EMF of the battery let the external resistance be R and internal be r10=E-Err+R=ERr+R.....111=E-Err+R+1=ER+Er+R+1......212=E-Err+R+3=ER+3Er+R+3.......3solve the above three eqn get the ans Regards10=E-Er+Rr=ERr+R11=E-Er+R+1r=ER+Er+R+113=E-Er+R+3r=ER+3Er+R+3solve the eqn and get the values Regards
