Question

The radius of a circle with centre O is 5 cm. Two radii OA and OB are drawn at right angles to each other. Find the areas of the segments made by the chord AB            (Take π=3.14)


Solution

Area of minor segment =πr2×θ360or2 sin θ2 cos θ2

=3.14×5×5×903605×5×12×12

=19.62512.5=7.125 cm2

Now, area of the major segment = Area of circle - Area of minor segment

=3.14×5×57.125

=78.57.125=71.375 cm2
