Open in App
Solution

It is an exothermic reaction.
Sodium Reacts with water to produce sodium hydroxide and hydrogen gas accompanied with a large amount of heat.
Any reaction that releases heat is regarded as EXOTHERMIC.

The reaction is as follows:

2Na(s)+2H2O(l)———>2NaOH(l)+H2(g)

Any metal when reacts with water in liquid state produces that metal oxide and hydrogen gas. Of all metal water reactions Sodium metal and water reaction is the most vigorous and exothermic.
