Question

The recipe requires $$3\cfrac { 1 }{ 4 } $$ cups of flour. Radha has $$1\cfrac { 3 }{ 8 } $$ cups of flour. How many more cups of flour does she need?

Solution

Total Requirement of flour $$=3\dfrac{1}{4} = \dfrac{{13}}{4}$$cups

Available flour  $$=1\dfrac{3}{8} = \dfrac{{11}}{8}$$ cups

Requirement of flour $$=\dfrac{{13}}{4} - \dfrac{{11}}{8}$$

                                    $$ = \dfrac{{26 - 11}}{8}$$

                                    $$ = \dfrac{{15}}{8}$$

                                    $$ = 1\dfrac{7}{8}$$ cups
