Question

The solubility of ammonia in water is 52.9 whereas solubility of N2 is only 0.0019. Reason for this is

A
N2 is heavier than NH3
loader
B
NH3 reacts with water forming NH4OH
loader
C
Water reacts with N2 forming N2O
loader
D
NH3  is pyramidal in shape, whereas N2 is linear

Solution

The correct option is B NH3 reacts with water forming NH4OH
When ammonia is dissolved in water. It reacts with water forming ammonium hydroxide (NH4OH). So as the amount of NH3 dissolving in water is more due to its reactivity, the solubility is more.
So generally to store ammonia which is a gas, we store in laboratories as NH4OH  by mixing with water.
