Hydrides of carbon are more stable since the elelctronegativity values of carbon and hydrogen are nearly the same.

In carbon, due to smaller size, the force of attraction between the nucleus and the valence electrons is higher and thus the stability is higher.

Hydrides of silicon are less stable because in silanes hydrogen withdraw electrons from Si-H bond.
As we move down, electronegativity decreases so stability decreases.
