Question

The sum of the digits of a two digit number is 5. Now, when the reverse of the number is subtracted from the original one then the difference is 27. What is the original number?

  1. 14 or 41

  2. 85 or 58

  3. None of these

  4. 32 or 25

Solution

The correct option is A

14 or 41

Let the original number be  10x +y
Reverse of this number = 10y + x
Now, difference of reverse of the number and the original number = (10y + x) - (10x +y)
= 9y - 9x
Sum of the two digits of the number x+ y = 5
9y -9x = 63
or, y - x = 3
x +y = 5
Solving two equations we get

y = 4 and x = 1
