Question

The sum of three numbers is 264 If the first number be twice the second and third number be one-third of the first then find the second number?

Solution

Let the second number be x Then
First number =2x and third number $$\displaystyle =\frac{2x}{3}$$
Given $$\displaystyle 2x+x+\frac{2x}{3}=264\Rightarrow \frac{6x+3x+2x}{3}=264\Rightarrow 11x=264\times 3\Rightarrow x=\frac{264\times 3}{11}=72$$
